Change Hair Colors Like Kylie Jenner Without Damaging Your Hair

If you don’t want to damage your hair, but want to achieve those gorgeous Kylie Jenner hair colors, it is possible. You just have to pick the right method of coloring it.

I love changing my hair color like Kylie Jenner does because I love colors. Currently, I’m in love with fantasy hair dyes, but I’m not a natural blonde. This means my hair is going to suffer through the process of bleaching.

It’s been about a year since I last dyed my hair as I’m giving it some time to recover.

This led me to do a little research about different ways to have a beautiful, out-of-this-world color. If you don’t want to damage your hair, can’t dye it because of your job or are lazy like me and can’t maintain it, try these options.

Remember to use an old towel, old t-shirt, and gloves.

Temporary options

1. Hair spray

Lazy people love this option. It’s good for retouching roots, too. You can put it on all your hair or just the ends. Before you apply the spray, shake it well and hold the can about 20 cm from your head.

If you have very light blonde hair or bleached hair, be careful with this option because it could stain your hair or change it to a strange. However, the spray will wash out with shampoo.

2. Chalk

I’m not a fan of chalk because it leaves your hair looking dry. However, liquid chalk (in soft chalk pastels) is better than the regular chalk. Also, applying mousse or other hair products before the chalk can help to prevent your hair drying out too much.

Just rub the chalk over your hair in a downward motion. You need to wet either your hair or the chalk. Avoid touching your hair once you’re done so that it lasts longer. For a faster result, use the liquid chalk, which can also last up to two shampoos.

3. Hair dyes

Hair dyes are definitely my favorite option as they give the best and boldest result. You can find them in your local pharmacy or drug store as well as online. Remember to check that it’s a temporary dye though!

Ask a friend to help you apply it or do it yourself. It lasts for up to two shampoos.

4. Eyeshadow

Eyeshadow works in a similar way to chalk, which makes it a good option to dye strands or the ends of your hair. Apply mousse or conditioner to your hair, then rub your chosen eyeshadow color in a downward motion for a gorgeous result.

It’ll last until your next shampoo.

5. Crepe paper

If you have light brown or blonde hair, crepe paper is great for a temporary color change! Heat some water in a casserole dish and place strips of crepe paper in it.

When the water starts to take on the color of the paper, wet your hair and wrap the strips into your hair. Secure them with a hairband or hair tie and leave them for at least thirty minutes.

For darker hair, leave them in longer and try bold colors. Depending on the color of your hair, the dye can last for three to seven days.

Longer-lasting options

1. Food coloring

Food coloring is a good choice for people who want a bold color, but don’t have a semi-permanent traditional hair dye at home. The color lasts for up to six weeks, but could last longer for lighter hair.

Since food coloring can stain your skin very easily, apply Vaseline or lotion before the color and work carefully. Leave the color on your hair for at least 15 minutes before rinsing it, but do not shampoo your hair for at least 24 hours.

When you do wash your hair, there will be some color residue so use an old t-shirt or towel to dry your hair.

2. Hair extensions

This is one of my favorite options because it’s one of the quickest and easiest ways to change your hair color. You’re also not limited to one color. Choose between synthetic or human hair extensions.

If they’re not expensive, you can also dye the extensions to the color of your choice.

3. Wig

Like extensions, you can choose between a synthetic or human hair wig. The latter look more natural, but they’re also more expensive. If you choose a synthetic wig, make sure to wash it so that you can get rid of the artificial shine.

It’s also possible to make your own wig using hair extensions. Simply sew the extensions very close together on a weaving cap. There are lots of tutorials available on YouTube and, with careful work, no one will even know it’s not your natural hair.

4. Hair dyes

For a bold result, hair dyes are best, but they only last for up to six weeks. Some brands also don’t have much pigment. Good semi-permanent brands include Directions, Manic Panic and Stargazer. The application is the same as the temporary hair dye.

5. oVertone

This is a conditioner rather than a hair dye. According to the FAQs on their website, “The oVertone conditioners are vegan color-depositing formulas that keep your fantasy hair color bright or add fantasy color to your natural colored or bleached strands”.

It will stay bright, not fade and will condition your hair. The results look amazing. You only need to substitute your normal conditioner with this one.

If you still want to bleach your hair to color it, remember that it’s better to go to a professional stylist. Darker hair means more bleaching, which is a long process. Also, since fantasy colors don’t penetrate the hair follicles, they fade more quickly and require more maintenance.

So, if you’re on a tight budget, but don’t want to sacrifice your hair color, try one of these options instead. Have you tried one of these methods? Do you know of others? Share your color tips below!
