10 Things to Be Grateful for Every Day

It’s normal to feel a bit glum from time to time, but how often do we walk around marveling at how lucky we are just to be alive? The answer is probably not as frequently as we should.

In life, it’s easy to get lost in a sea of negativity when things seem to go from bad to worse. Sometimes, everything seems to happen all at once, and we can end up wondering when we will next come up for air. It is at times like these that it is important to focus on the positives in life.

With this in mind, here is my list of 10 things to be grateful for every day!

#1 You Are Alive

Yep, you got it. Just think about what an incredible thing it is to be alive and part of the human race. You live on a little blue and green planet shooting across the vacuum of space at approximately 67,000 miles an hour circling a minor star in an infinite universe.

You have been given an opportunity to be and do anything you want. The only thing that’s holding you back is your imagination, fear, and a small twist of luck.

So, the next time you are feeling a bit sad or down, remember to be grateful you are alive. Never forget that you manifest your own reality, so don’t let your negative thoughts hijack and control your emotional state.

#2 There Is Abundance Everywhere

I know this is a tough one to grasp when you are struggling to find the money to pay your electricity bill, gas prices seem to be rocketing and your annual salary increase barely covers your morning coffee ritual, but the truth is the universe really is abundant.

I am not just talking about solar power, wind, and waves here either. The genius Nikola Tesla was certain the universe (and that includes you) is completely chock full of untapped energy, and modern scientific concepts such as the electric universe seem to back up his theories of abundant energy.

Okay, so we have yet to fully crack the puzzle, but we are getting there. So surely it’s only a matter of time before we are all flying around in electric cars and heating our homes with free energy.

Now isn’t that something to be happy about!

#3 You Are a Winner

A winner? Yes, you won the first and most important competition of your entire life.

Against odds of hundreds of millions to one, as a sperm you managed to find your mother’s egg, impregnate it and then successfully fertilize it and gestate into a super cute baby for the next nine months.

It’s an incredible, miraculous, and beautiful thing you did back then so you should give yourself a pat on the back. Well done to you both!

#4 We Live Longer Than Ever Before

Just A hundred years ago, the average life expectancy in America was about 54 years. Now it’s nearly 80 years. Isn’t that a great reason to feel grateful for being alive today?

Plus, we have better medicines, healthcare, and lifestyle choices than ever before.

What’s more, there are plenty of groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs on the horizon in fields that, until recently, seemed like pure science fiction – genome research, nanotechnology and bionics are just a few.

So there’s no reason, if you are sensible, why getting older shouldn’t continue to get better and better.

#5 Bees

Bees are great.

Okay, they can sting you if you hassle them too much and that can suck, but they only do it as a last resort and it hurts them more than it hurts you!

However, without them we would be in a real pickle. It’s not just scrummy honey and royal jelly they provide either. They also pollinate most of our food crops and their hard work helps to feed our livestock. They may be small but we sure have a big reason to be grateful for them.

As Maurice Maeterlinck said, “If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.”

So, let’s just pray that the serious threat they are currently facing is overcome swiftly, and in the meantime, be grateful and give them all the support you can!

#6 The Internet

Never in the history of all mankind have we ever had more access to information, ideas, data, and, of course, each other than today.

To a large extent, this is all down to the internet and the digital revolution. Of course we often use it for trivial and mundane stuff like social networking, posting selfies, or forwarding viral memes of cats with moustaches.

But it’s still an incredible and amazing thing that keeps getting better and better.

Along with other related technology such as Wi-Fi, smartphones, and killer apps it is something we should be incredibly grateful about.

After all, where are you reading this list right now?

# 7 Rain

Sure, rain can put a big dampener on things (pun intended) – it’s definitely a no go zone for weddings and other big social events -but can you imagine how awful life would be without rain? No rivers, no plants, no oxygen, in fact; no humans.

Basically, it doesn’t just clean our cars and cool us down in the summer. Rain is a vital component of life on Earth and without it we couldn’t survive.

So, next time you get caught in a downpour, don’t get angry – be grateful!

#8 True Friends

Having great friends is just such a wonderful thing to be grateful about.

I’m not talking about your 760 Facebook friends who you have never even met. No, I’m talking about the real thing here. The ones who will drop everything to help you when you need it; the ones who make you laugh, and the ones who are a shoulder to cry on when you have just been dumped and feel like crap.

Chances are you only have a few of these gems. But make sure you remember to be grateful for them and just as importantly; let them know how you feel from time to time.

#9 Trees

Imagine a world without trees? It’s terrible isn’t it?

They not only supply us with lots of lovely and healthy fruits, berries, and nuts; they give us shelter from the elements, wood to make things, and pump out oodles of oxygen for us all to breathe.

Plus, they usually look fantastic, come in lots of shapes, colors and sizes, and provide homes and a larder for countless other animals and creatures.

Here’s a big, grateful shout-out to wonderful, amazing trees.

#10 Travel

Never before has it been so cheap and easy to travel. Not only can you travel across America, or the Atlantic for that matter, at a fraction of the relative cost from 50 years ago, you can also do it much quicker and even purchase your tickets and added extras online.

The world has opened up in ways unimaginable to our parents’ or grandparents’ generation. Even if only have a few days’ vacation and are on a shoestring budget, you can always spend it somewhere new and exciting.
